📿 Seven Things to To Live By
Often times transformational shifts can happen at any moment, with or without our permission, and most often they happen in an instant. How we react to these moments can bring us to a new awareness of our capabilities and power and often times bring us to a deep edge of experience. The more we can cultivate virtuous qualities as tools in our lives, the easier it is to know the best path during adversity. Like a smooth river rock, we become more and more accustomed to going with the flow. It's helpful if you grab a piece of paper and write these seven things down. The process of writing and creating a physical object will help these qualities manifest deeper in your life. Keep this piece of paper in your pocket for a couple weeks, months (years!) and try to enact these things daily. Whenever you have a break from your day, pull this piece of paper out and remind your self of them.
1. Read: Read a little.. or a lot! :) You're slowly stepping into another person's perspective, which can inspire and strengthen us tremendously. It brings us into new vistas, worlds, and dimensions of imagination that we had never thought of before, expanding our mind and worldview. 2. Gratitude: Write down three things you're grateful for in the morning and evening. Say them out loud, there is power in your voice (in the beginning was the Word..) 3. Meditation: Take time to meditate every morning and evening. 5 minutes can go a long way. Email me if you have any questions about meditation. I'd love to chat. 4. Laughter: Always find a little humour in your day. Make a goofy face, a weird sound with your voice, try out Laughter yoga, or catch a funny movie. There are countless ways to cultivate a good chuckle. :) 5. Compassion: Be compassionate towards self and others. A large amount of anxiety can be reduced by realising we are both experiencing moments of suffering, by "walking a mile in their shoes", by seeing that the Other and You are One. 6. Kindness: Create at least one simple act of kindness towards a living being each day (human, animal, insect). 7. Lightheartedness: Cultivate lightheartedness in your reactions to situations in your life. When something happens, notice the split second of time you have before you actually react and commit to an action or stream of thoughts. Ask yourself, "what would it feel like to not take this situation so seriously, what would the physical sensation of lightheartedness be in this moment?" Even if it only lasts a second, that's progress towards change, which leads towards consistency, and ultimately transformation. We're not trying to block emotions or feelings, but rather allowing them to move through us, breathing deeply, and moving forward towards lightness, peace and balance.
Bit by bit, so as water fills a jug, our mind becomes slowly transformed into a vehicle that moves in the direction of our efforts. Rome wasn't built in a day, so remember to have patience. And welcome all of the other things that you know you want in your life and use daily, add to the list, make your own list. Feel the power of your focus towards that which you desire in your life.
My prayer is that you feel these seven qualities in your life, manifesting them in your inner and outer worlds; that they blossom in your relationships; that they become a lighthouse during the storm; that they bring you to your deepest Self. Love + Light, Kyle
