The "Why's" Of Yoga and Teaching
Why do I love yoga? Because of the way it transforms my body and mind.
Why did I first get on the mat?
The way my body felt after each yoga class, the lightness, the strength.
Why did I stay?
Each time I did yoga, I began to feel better and better! Taller, lighter, stronger, happier, more calm and at peace.
What inspired me to be a teacher?
When I realized that I could bring this transformative power to others and spread the power of yoga!
Who are my favorite teachers?
Mark Stephens because of his focus on proper alignment, support, and attention to detail. Eric Schiffman because of the space between his words, his ability to create a feeling of the sacred.
Who are my students? Who do I want to teach?
My students are those that are seeking health and transformation in their lives and who don't necessarily fit into any group. You don't have to be fit, think a certain way, or follow a particular stereotype that most people think of when they think of yogis in the West, being skinny and fit for example. I want to help offer a supportive and safe environment for all body types, ages, genders, and lifestyles. Yoga is for every-body and cultivating that philosophy is my life mission. If you have a body and a breath, yoga was meant for you! The deepest part of yoga is internal.
What poses do I like to practice?
Plank pose, down dog, forearm stand, dolphin pose, and a delicious janu sirsasana.
What is my overall message? Who can you serve best? Who do you not serve as well?
Through direct experience of the present moment one has the incredible ability to heal, transform, and strengthen. I serve those who seek peace, calm, strength, and transformation. I do not serve those whose only focus is physical strength without mental and spiritual development.
I teach because I want students to..
Feel better at the end of class
Find a new realm of being in their body and mind
Calm their mind
Feel relaxed and depressurized
Focus on the power of love
Light overcoming the darkness
Create strength in body and mind
Create discipline and peace daily
I teach yoga because…
I love bringing healing to the world around me
When I teach yoga it feels good inside
The world needs more peace, love, and compassion
I want to cultivate compassion, resilience, and peace in all sentient beings.
It gets me and my students in our bodies, in our breath
It prolongs this life we’ve been given and gives us a radiant and healthy body.
It can clear the mind and most people in today’s age could use a clear and open mind!
